Local Wilco stores offer alfalfa meal as a fertilizer that we use as we put the garden beds “to bed” each year. Alfalfa meal breaks down slowly over the winter months in the soil but is ready to access by the seeds and seedlings in Spring. We use alfalfa meal in addition to Azomite and Calpril lime as we put the beds to bed.

We use this to put the beds to bed at the end of the season for the Interbay Mulch Method in our no-till garden biome.

The hummingbirds love our water feature. These solar fountains are also a great resource for bees and other pollinators.

Ace Hardware Agrishop offers Black Gold Seed Starting mix. This mix provides little nutrition but, more importantly, the ratio of peat and perlite to enhance seed germination, proper drainage and air circulation around the seed and it’s tiny roots. It is the perfect “nursery” for germination and initial growth of the seedlings along with grow lights, heat mats and protection from the cold.

Amazon offers these precision Japanese made bypass pruners, built to last if well cared for, light weight, ergonomically designed and top rated by many plantspersons.

This is added to amend the growing beds in the fall before planting for soil acidification. It adds calcium, increases available phosphorus and molybdenum and improves efficiency of potassium.

We use two products for plant propagation, Dip N Grow and Root Tone. Dip N Grow is a liquid rooting hormone with ability to regulate the concentration of root hormone to softwood to hard wood cuttings. Root Tone, another brand comes in powder form of a rooting hormone for plant propagation.

We use this product to help our tomatoes grow strong and healthy.

Lowes or Ace Hardware Agrishop offers 3/8minus gravel. Our gravel pathway winds around the garden and over the past 12 years, the gravel has provided some weed blocking as well as a safe and secure walking surface but the gravel has worn thin and we battle weeds and slippery spots.

These useful tools provide guides for irrigation hoses and help pin down supports. We use and reuse the items but they tend to rust over time so the Learning Garden is looking for a resupply.

Various garden tools help us weed, dig, and grow. If you have some large tools in good shape to donate such as saddle or loop hoes, weeding tools, tine cultivators, and more. Please reach out to us via the volunteer form to arrange a pick up or drop off.

These are used in the greenhouse at the start of the season to keep the area dry when watering the seedlings. While they are used year over year, the plastic deteriorates and the Learning Garden is looking for new trays for the growing season. We use these with the vented domes.

We use these covers to help protect seeds as we grow them in the greenhouse. They are used with the drip tray for seed starts.

Hand tools are used to harvest and maintain the garden all through the season. If you have hand tools that just need a refreshing, please think of donating them. We would be happy to clean and sharpen and them to good use.

Irrigation is used throughout the garden to facilitate watering when volunteers are not available. These timers help to provide the supply at the right times throughout the seasons. We are also looking for tubing to stretch the irrigation system and lighten the load of watering.

Amazon offers the best price for these popular loppers. Loppers are essentials for tree branch pruning and thinning. We use loppers on our 12 fruit trees as we prune in winter months: figs, apples, pears, cherry and almond.

We are seeking two varieties of mulch for different purposes. Medium mulch is used in the children's garden area to tamp weeds and provide an easy surface around the beds. The fine mulch is used for transplants and propagation. We use natural mulches and prefer those locally sourced. Do you have clean extra mulch? We may be able to arrange pick up or drop off. Many starts are fed with this product to fertilize the plants in the garden and those donated by volunteers for the garden and the plant sale.

This fabric is used as a barrier against frost. It's a great tool for germination rapid seedling growth as well as protecting seeds from birds.

Grower Solutions, through Amazon offers a sturdy and reusable 3 ½ by 5 inch pots allowing the roots of the new seedling plenty of room to grow, gain bulk and strength as it matures into the plant you want in your garden beds. 300 would give us pots for several growing seasons as we save the pots year to year.

Seeds are the start of life in the garden. We are happy for vegetables, pollinators, and herbs. Heirloom seeds can help us replant year after year. We also take plant starts!
